Rangers are in talks with Stade Rennais over a deal for talented youngster Matthis Abline , according to reports in France.
19-year-old Abline has been in the first-team picture at Rennes and had a run of substitute appearances in the first-half of last season. Minutes were hard to come by as the season wore on though and he went on loan to Le Havre in Ligue 2 - where he scored an impressive six goals in 19 appearances.
A talented all-round striker, he remains highly-rated in France and is under contract until 2025. But it's claimed in his homeland that Rangers have opened talks to bring him to Ibrox, where he would provide further cover for Alfredo Morelos, Kemar Roofe and new striker Antonio Colak. As things stand details about the deal are scarce but a loan with an option to buy, similar to the one that took James Sands to Ibrox last season, looks the most likely option.
He could be Gio van Bronckhorst's second signing from France in this window amid reports linking 25-year-old playmaker Angelo Fulgini . He's into the final year on his deal although Angers still want as much as £6m for his services, given his status as a key man for the Ligue 1 side.
Elsewhere a deal for Welsh winger Rabbi Matondo looks increasingly likely. Goal reported earlier today that talks were well underway to bring the Schalke youngster to Rangers, after he fired ten goals in 27 appearances on loan at Cercle Brugge last season.
It's now claimed the 21-year-old, formerly of Manchester City, will fly to Glasgow within the next 24 hours for a medical. SPORT1 say a deal has been struck with Rangers paying just €3m (£2.6m) for his services.
Matondo has already racked up 69 appearances for three clubs at senior level and is believed to be keen on a fresh start in Scotland. Along with Tom Lawrence, he could help fill the creative void that will be left by Joe Aribo , who is set to join Southampton.
