Rangers transfer bulletin as Jose Cifuentes sweepstakes ramp up FOUR years after Celtic signing lust

Rangers have been namechecked as a potential transfer destination for Jose Cifuentes – FOUR years after he was tipped to join Celtic.

The 24–year-old is heading into the final year of his Los Angeles FC contract and is being chased by a clutch of clubs in Europe. The Ecuador international has long desired heading to Europe and now the Ibrox side have been linked alongside Leeds United and Espanyol. Cifuentes has turned heads in the MLS and now appears primed to take the next step in his career.

The midfielder, according to Stateside insider Tom Bogert, could depart during the summer window or could exit as a free agent at the conclusion of the MLS season in November. Michael Beale is striving to revamp his Rangers squad after sporting director Ross Wilson joined Nottingham Forest last week. The Englishman has stated he is happy with his transfer budget and admits the time is now to freshen up a squad which sees the likes of Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Jack with weeks remaining on their current Ibrox deals.

Cifuentes was reportedly craved by Celtic and he even addressed swirls linking him with a move to Glasgow's east end. Speaking in 2019, he said: "I want to have the opportunity to leave for Europe. Celtic is a big club with everything that they play for. I had heard of the club before."

Beale is in the market for a new number nine but will likely need multiple signings amid his bid to make Rangers bonafide contenders to take on champions elect Celtic next season.
