Rangers are set to launch a bid for Utrecht striker Anastasios Douvikas with an offer in the region of £7million, according to reports in Greece.
The Ibrox side have been linked with the 23-year-old frontman in recent days and they now appear ready to step that up as Michael Beale looks to bolster his attacking options following the arrival of Sam Lammers and with Rangers facing competition for Cremonese striker Cyriel Dessers.
Douvikas has been capped 15 times for Greece and the Athens-born striker started his club career with Asteras Tripolis before moving to Volos and then leaving his homeland two years ago when he joined Dutch side Utrecht for £1m in a four-year deal. Celtic are linked with the striker at the end of last season when he was touted as a potential makeweight in a deal to help move on flop Hoops keeper Vasilis Barkas.
But it’s now Rangers who appear to be seriously interested in Douvikas with Greek outlet Nova Sports saying a bid could be imminent, although both Galatasaray and Borussia Monchengladbach are also both said to be interested in the player. Douvikas bagged 19 goals last season to finish joint top scorer in the Eredivisie – tied with former Rangers target Xavi Simons – to help Utrecht finish seventh in the Dutch top flight.
