Andy Walker was left laughing at Craig Moore when he claimed Celtic DON'T actually need to lose four times to let Rangers back into the title race.
Ange Postecoglou's team sit nine points ahead of Rangers in the league table, but their far superior goal difference is effectively worth another point with 12 games left to play. It means Rangers would need to beat the Hoops in the two remaining league derbies and make up a further four points on them in other games to overtake them - a task that looks near insurmountable considering Celtic have only dropped four all season so far.
The pundits were speaking on Go Radio when a caller kicked things off by suggesting a win for Rangers in Sunday's Viaplay Cup final could switch the momentum in the Premiership in favour of Michael Beale's side who have matched Celtic blow for blow since his return to the club.
Walker said: "I can't see that type of collapse (in the league). Celtic have lost once to St Mirren, they've drawn once against Rangers at Ibrox, if they lose a cup final...I just can't see that causing a collapse given the players that they have. I've absolutely no doubt Celtic will win the league by some distance, maybe even more than nine points. So, whatever way it goes on Sunday, I don't think it will have any effect. Rangers can gather some momentum (from the final) but they would still need Celtic to lose four games..."
Moore cut in: "Nah, but see on that? If Rangers go and win the next two league games against Celtic, and Celtic draw...this four losses is not really accurate," before a chuckling Walker responded: "How is it not accurate?"
An undeterred Moore continued: "That's 12 points. You're talking about the goal difference, if you've been in a title race, if you're nine points clear, and that lead becomes six points, then five points, then three...there's pressure in terms of the momentum. There could be a lot still to play out this season, that's what I think. You're saying Celtic need to lose four times, but if they lose one or two, the pressure will be on."
Walker, laughing again, replied: "If they lose one or two, they still need to lose another. It's still that number. They're still that many points clear."
But Moore replied: "There's still a lot to play for. Make no mistake about that."
