Rangers title hero Scott Arfield set for transfer switch to end MLS stint

Former Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield is set to leave Charlotte FC, according to a report.

It's claimed the 35-year-old will depart the MLS side this summer to return to England.

Arfield - who represented the Canadian international team - had moved to the States following an emotional exit from Rangers last summer.

However, it's reported Arfield is closing in on a move to English League One side Bolton Wanderers.

It comes after the former Burnley player was not at training on Wednesday this week sparking speculation over a transfer exit.

Journalist Tom Bogert states: "Sources: Scott Arfield's Charlotte FC departure is imminent.

"Arfield not at training today as he heads to the lower leagues in England."

He added: "Sources: Scott Arfield is heading to Bolton."

Arfield - who won the Scottish Premiership title with Rangers in 2021 - hasn't closed the door on a return to Ibrox in the future, even if it may still be a "few years away".

On a possible move back to Glasgow to work in a coaching capacity at Rangers, Arfield said previously: “I would love to go back to that football club. “If you ask anybody, if you get the opportunity to go there then you take it.

"Even guys most people don’t know who work at the club feel extremely lucky to be part of it.

“If anything comes up in a coaching capacity, helping the young boys in the first team even, I would jump at the chance.

But I think that’s a few years away for me now. I have a lot more in my legs and a lot more big moments hopefully.”
