PSV Eindhoven could come unstuck against Rangers as they face off in the Champions League play-off, according to Dutch legend Wim van Hanegem.
The former Netherlands international reckons PSV play more as individuals rather than as a team, providing Gio van Bronckhorst 's men with an opportunity to pounce. Hanegem has also been left less than impressed with the Dutch side's star man and reported Manchester United target Cody Gakpo.
The Light Blues welcome PSV to Ibrox on Tuesday before travelling to Eindhoven for the second leg of the tie next week. Both sides go into the game on the back of convincing domestic victories with Rangers hammering St Johnston e 5-0 in front of a home crowd and PSV defeating Go Ahead Eagles fives goals to two on their travels. But despite plenty of praise for Ruud van Nistelrooy World Cup Finalist and former Feyenoord manager van Hanegem admits he's yet to be convinced by PSV.
He said: "Although I really wish Ruud van Nistelrooy all the success in the world, PSV is not an easy watch for me. Yes, they have Xavi Simons, Johan Bakayoko and Ismael Saibari in their team and they have shown they are real football players. But while PSV have many individual qualities, I don't think they can be regarded as a proper team yet. And as for Cody Gakpo being linked with Manchester United, I can only presume that was before they saw him in both legs against Monaco.
"Those matches showed that he would be better served spending an extra year in Eindhoven to develop. He can be a good player, but one nice pass against Go Ahead Eagles isn't enough. Let's see what he can do this week against Rangers at Ibrox in a game that really matters."
Meanwhile, Champions League Final referee will be the man in charge at Ibrox on Tuesday night. The Italian whistler has had his fair share of important appearances across Europe, including Celtic's heaviest-ever European home defeat when PSG crushed them 5-0, but the Rangers PSV clash will be his first visit to Ibrox.
