Rangers team news v St Johnstone confirmed as Ben Davies provides boost while James Sands moved

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has selected his Rangers team that will take on St Johnstone this afternoon.

There are few options at the back but rookie centre-back Leon King is joined by the returning Ben Davies with James Tavernier and Borna Barisic as full-backs. James Sands returns to his natural midfield role with John Lundstram and Malik Tillman makes up the engine room trio. Antonio Colak is the preferred striker option with support from Ryan Kent and Fashion Sakala on the wings.

Celtic extended the gap at the Scottish Premiership to seven points with a 4-2 win over Dundee United yesterday and Rangers will look to bring that gap down to four. Van Bronckhorst said ahead of the game: "It's important to start really well in every game and score quick - I think last year we scored in the second minute [away to St. Johnstone].

"That always helps when you're defending against teams that play really low to open up spaces, because they have to come out to score. That's very important.

Rangers XI: McGregor, Tavernier, King, Davies, Barisic, Sands, Lundstram, Sands, Tillman, Kent, Colak, Sakala

Subs: McLaughlin, Davis, Matondo, Kamara, Morelos, Wright, McCann, Arfield, Yfeko.
