Celtic are set to find out their opponents for the controversial Sydney Super Cup after Rangers pulled out of the friendly tournament.
The Ibrox club dramatically withdrew from the tournament in Australia, which would have seen both Glasgow giants go head to head outside of Scotland for the first time at the 83,500 seater Accor Stadium. Celtic, Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers are all still advertised to compete in the tournament in November, which the Parkhead side had billed as Ange Postecoglou 's homecoming.
Celtic had been set to face off against Sydney and then Gio van Bronckhorst's side during the winter break before the reshuffle of the competition, with organisers remaining silent on who would face Postecoglou's men in the second clash in Oz. Western Sydney have also been left in limbo, having been scheduled to face off with Rangers during the opening fixture of the four-team tournament.
A statement has now appeared on a holding page for the Sydney Super Cup, which reads: "History will be made in Sydney this November in the newly created Sydney Super Cup. Updated details to be announced soon!"
Rangers still appear on some media advertising the game alongside Celtic, including on the ticket sales page. However, there is no longer an option to buy tickets for the game featuring the Europa League finalists.
