Rangers survey questions answered as fans remind Ibrox board there is work to be done despite Europa League heroics

It was a season of highs and lows for Rangers fans. A defence of the Scottish Premiership title was top of the agenda for Steven Gerrard as he started the new campaign at Ibrox.

But things change quickly in football, and by November Gerrard had headed south to take the Aston Villa job. That left Gio van Bronckhorst to step into the hot seat, and his Scottish Cup victory only and being dethroned by Celtic in the league only tells part of the story.

A historic run to Europa League final ended in heartbreak against Eintracht Frankfurt, but there was plenty of memorable moments on the way to Seville. Supporters will take plenty of encouragement from memorable nights against Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig, but what are the biggest takeaways for fans? And what do they take forward to next season?

With the Champions League playoff rounds just around the corner, the clock as we approach pre-season.

Record Sport gauges the feeling of Rangers fans after the campaign, and what they feel needs to be done this summer.

Who was Rangers’ top performer in 2021/22?

James Tavernier - 54 per cent

Calvin Bassey - 33 per cent

John Lundstram - 7 per cent

Joe Aribo - 4 per cent

The captain was hailed again by the Ibrox fans in a campaign that ended with him lifting the Scottish Cup. However, it was his key role in reaching the Europa League final which caught the eye, netting seven goals on the way to Seville and finishing as the top scorer in the competition. Calvin Bassey wasn't too far behind after an impressive campaign at Ibrox.

What was the pick of the 128 goals scored?

John Lundstram vs Borussia Dortmund - 48 per cent

Ryan Jack vs Hearts (Scottish Cup final) - 30 per cent

Glen Kamara vs RB Leipzig - 17 per cent

James Tavernier vs St Johnstone - 4 per cent

John Lundstram earned hero status on the way to Seville, and his goal against Borussia Dortmund may be his most memorable moment. It rounded off a sweeping move in Germany, as he drove Ryan Kent's inch-perfect cross into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

What was the most memorable game of the season?

Rangers vs RB Leipzig - 45 per cent

Borussia Dortmund vs Rangers - 41 per cent

Rangers vs Celtic (Scottish Cup semi-final) - 10 per cent

Rangers vs Hearts (Scottish Cup final) - 3 per cent

The Europa League dominates this one - and will be dominating the minds of Rangers fans for years. While the win at the Westfalenstadion caught the attention of Europe, the win at Ibrox to see off RB Leipzig and reach the Seville showpiece tops the lot.

Which Academy star excited you most?

Alex Lowry - 90 per cent

Leon King - 4 per cent

Cole McKinnon - 3 per cent

Adam Devine - 1 per cent

A decisive winner with the Ibrox support after Alex Lowry enjoyed his breakthrough campaign. Aged just 18, he has already netted twice for the Rangers first-team and will be looking to continue his rise under Gio van Bronckhorst next term.

Who was the best Ibrox new boy?

John Lundstram - 93 per cent

Aaron Ramsey - 3 per cent

Fashion Sakala - 3 per cent

Amad Diallo - 1 per cent

There were two fairly quiet transfer windows last term for both Steven Gerrard and Gio van Bronckhorst. John Lundstram clearly made the biggest impact on the team, and that has been recognised by the Rangers fans.

What area is the priority for strengthening next season?

Attack - 68 per cent

Defence - 20 per cent

Goalkeeper - 8 per cent

Midfleld - 3 per cent

The Rangers attack was hampered by injuries to Alfredo Morelos and Kemar Roofe, leaving Joe Aribo to lead the line in the Europa League final. So it's clear to see why fans want to see new faces up front. With Morelos approaching the final year of his deal a new striker could be vital.
