Rangers striker Danilo set for another month out injured

Rangers striker Danilo is set for another spell on the sidelines through injury.

The Brazilian has today been left out of Philippe Clement's 21-man Europa League squad for the campaign ahead.

It comes after the frontman returned to The Netherlands for rehabilitation following a second operation carried out on his knee this week. He was spotted at Glasgow Airport wearing a leg brace.

The Rangers Review says Danilo will be out for around four weeks after undergoing the tidy-up surgery.

It's believed the procedure is not thought to be serious and that the 25-year-old should make a comeback to training by around the end of September.

The £6m striker spent much of last season on the treatment table after sustaining a serious knee injury in a Scottish Premiership encounter at Tynecastle last November.

He's struggled to get back into the starting XI since due to the form of Cyriel Dessers.

Danilo did score his first goal of the 2024/25 season in the 6-0 mauling of Ross County a couple of weeks back.

The news comes as a blow for Rangers, and will now place even greater pressure on Cyriel Desssers and new boy Hamza Igamane to produce the goods.

“They have seen that I will always try to bring everything I can on the field and I want to help the team as much as possible with the goals,” the striker recently said. “Last year was not my year. I had some good numbers and some goals and assists but I think now I know everybody in the building and there are fresh players.

"I will do my best to score as many goals as possible and hopefully not have the bad luck with the injuries. I want to help the boys as much as possible and contribute to be part of this squad. It is important that we stick together and work hard as much as we can and bring as many victories as well.

"That is my message to the Rangers fans. I will do more than 120 per cent of myself. I want to score as many goals as possible and I will do my best to make that happen.”
