Rangers starlet 'wanted' by Championship club for loan

Dunfermline Athletic are reportedly interested in a loan move for Rangers academy winger Archie Stevens.

The Daily Record states that Pars boss Michael Tidser is looking to add quality to his attacking options, with the club currently sitting 9th in the Scottish Championship.

The young winger was handed his first-team debut at 16 years old in a ViaPlay Cup round of 16 ties when he came on in the second half against Queen of the South.

Stevens had high hopes about breaking into the first-team squad.

He spoke to Rangers TV after his debut appearance: “I want to perform well and continue improving as a player.

"I want to get round the other side of the building, both in training and games. I want to continue performing to a good standard and hopefully the rest will come.

“You’re always being watched, even in training. You need to treat every day the same, and have the desire and purpose to get round to the first-team side of the building.

“I’m going into my third season, so I’ve done two years. I’ve enjoyed every minute and hopefully I can keep pushing on. To get minutes for the first-team is what you want, and hopefully I can get some more if I keep working hard.”

The Rangers B player hasn’t made any first-team appearances since, but he has played well with the B team. He has netted 1 goal and 2 assists in 4 games in the Challenge Cup.

Stevens is reportedly eager to get some first team experience under his belt, as he has struggled to break into the first team at Rangers.

The 19-year-olds contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and he is unlikely to sign a new deal. Brighton and Leeds are reportedly interested in taking on the former England youth international when his contract expires at the end of the season.
