Rangers starlet 'picks' Scotland over USA national team

Highly-rated Rangers academy prospect Alexander Smith has reportedly chosen to play for Scotland.

The 16-year-old has played for both the country of his birth and the United States of America up until this point.

However, the Daily Record reports that the talented teenager has decided to commit to Scotland.

Smith has accepted a call-up to the Scotland Under-17s set-up.

So, he will be in line to face Northern Ireland in Belfast, before playing on home soil against both Lithuania and Republic of Ireland in upcoming qualifying matches.

While these are viewed as competitive games, and Smith's decision can be seen as a victory for the Scottish FA, the teen could still change his mind at a later date provided he doesn't play a certain number of games at full level.

Meanwhile, Ryan Kent has had his contract terminated at Fenerbahce by mutual agreement just 16 months into a four-year deal.

The former Rangers forward is now a free agent.

Kent joined the Turkish club in July 2023 after his contract expired at Ibrox and reportedly turned down an astonishing 21 transfer offers this summer to leave the Super Lig side.

It was revealed last month that manager Jose Mourinho had warned the 26-year-old he would never play for the club again as long as he remains in charge.

In a statement posted on social media, the club wrote: "The contract of Ryan Kent, one of the players of the Professional Football A Team, has been mutually terminated."
