Rangers startlet Alex Lowry has been dealt a major blow after images emerged of him on crutches and in a knee brace, following his horror injury in a SPFL Trust Trophy win over Dumbarton.
The 19-year-old from Uddingston was the victim of a lunging tackle from Sons star Ally Love, for which the former Clyde star says he has received death threats.
Lowry, who missed most of pre-season with a knock, was stretchered off following the challenge in a game that Rangers won 7-0 on Tuesday, with the teenager bagging a hat-trick.
Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst has confirmed that Lowry will be out for some time, having been sent for a knee scan on Wednesday.
Van Bronckhorst said: "Lowry will be some weeks out with injury."
'B' team boss David McCallum said: "I've just watched one of our brightest talents get a tackle that I thought was wrong.
"I thought that with the timing of the game, the game was gone - there's no need for that to happen.
"We've now got someone sitting in that dressing room in Alex Lowry who has got a real sore one.
"I think it's just way beyond a line that's appropriate for that type of game.
"It shouldn't have happened."
