Rangers star left 'absolutely raging' following latest setback - here's why

Liam Kelly has expressed his frustration after Rangers were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw against St Mirren, a result that left the goalkeeper "absolutely raging" as the Ibrox side were pegged back on two occasions.

Rangers took the lead through Cyriel Dessers and later Nicolas Raskin, but St Mirren responded with goals from Mark O’Hara and Conor McMenamin to bring the game level on both occasions.

Despite the disappointing draw in Paisley, Rangers secured second place in the Scottish Premiership, with Celtic having already been crowned champions earlier in the day.

However, Kelly's emotions were far from celebrating a top-two finish, with the experienced shot-stopper clearly upset at dropping points in a game they should have won.

"We should have won the game today, but we never did because of collective mistakes," he stated. "I've not even thought about the game next week yet. I'm just absolutely raging at it and gutted that we never managed to pick up three points.

"But like the gaffer says, we can't have any complaints because we caused a lot of harm to ourselves. It just seems to be the same story since the start of the season."

The draw leaves Rangers 17 points behind Celtic with just four matches remaining.

When asked about next week’s Old Firm derby at Ibrox, Kelly said: "Listen, it's an Old Firm game, but it's no different to any other game. It's maximum effort every single game."

Despite the recurring issues this season, Kelly believes Rangers can still hurt teams, even in big matches. Although, he was clear that words alone were no longer enough to effect change.

"Obviously, we can still hurt teams, big time," the former Motherwell favourite added.

"We've shown that in certain games. Even in big, big games, we've shown we can hurt teams. So I think teams know we are capable of hurting them. But it doesn't matter what I say. You've sat here and you've heard the same things the whole season. It's all empty words.

"No matter what you say, it just seems to happen every week. No matter how aggressive or how angry people get in the building or after games, it needs to change. There needs to be massive changes for us to improve as a team."
