Rangers star lands first career honour as Light Blues triumph over Hearts in Scottish Cup final

Uddingston's Alex Lowry has won the Scottish Cup with Rangers after their 2-0 win over Hearts at Hampden.

Robbie Neilson's Jambos hit the frame of the goal in the first half when Ellis Simms' outstretched leg caught a cross and clipped the post.

Ryan Kent, Joe Aribo and Amad Diallo were amongst those who missed opportunities for the Light Blues. They were looking to put the pain of Wednesday's Europa League final defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt behind them.

Things took a turn when the game went to extra-time as a stalemate, with former Aberdeen pair Ryan Jack and Scott Wright both netting to seal victory.

It seals a first major honour for the Lanarkshire teenager after breaking onto the senior scene this campaign.

Not since 2009 have Rangers won this trophy but they now extend Hearts' wait for the cup they last claimed 10 years ago.

Lowry was handed his debut in this competition by van Bronckhorst and his form over the course of this season has earned him a new deal until 2025.

His boss had said he would look to provide the Braidhurst high school graduate minutes in this but ultimately had to suffice for a spot on the bench.

Overall he had made seven appearances for the Govan club prior to this game, netting twice with two assists.
