There might be bigger things on the horizon for Rangers but if there's one thing Gio van Bronckhorst learned last season, it's that you can't take your eye off the ball for the league games.
His team completed another famous European feat during the week as they came back from 2-0 down to dismiss Union SG at Ibrox. And with a playoff showdown with PSV looming, Gers will be hoping to keep the winning momentum going when St Johnstone come to town.
Gers aren't quite at full strength with Filip Helander, Ianis Hagi and Kemar Roofe all still recovering. But Van Bronckhorst is delighted he's got a strong squad to choose from once again, even if it gives him a selection headache. He said: "We have a lot of players back now. We have a big squad to choose from for the matchday. After our last training session we will see who is going to start and for the best gameplan we need for playing against St Johnstone.”
Alfredo Morelos might be one hoping to force his way in after coming off the bench to score last weekend. He's yet to start this season, but he has a battle on his hands with Antonio Colak who also netted against Killie and followed that up with a strike against Union.
Ryan Kent looks likely to start on the wing again while Tom Lawrence and Malilk Tillman would feel aggrieved to lose their spots. But some rotation may be on the agenda with Scott Wright and Rabbi Matondo available in the attacking midfield positions.
As for St Johnstone, they have a swathe of absentees David Wotherspoon, Chris Kane, Callum Booth and Tony Gallacher all out injured. But Murray Davidson could return after serving his suspension last weekend.
