Rangers should take note of Ange Postecoglou's Celtic recruitment model says Barry Ferguson

Barry Ferguson reckons Rangers should take note of Ange Postecoglou's Celtic model when it comes to his forward planning in recruitment.

The Hoops boss has always reiterated his desire to get his transfer business done early since his arrival last summer. The January window is just around the corner with the Scottish champions already putting plans in place for the month of wheeling and dealing. Last year they secured a triple J-League swoop for Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and Yosuki Ideguchi and Parkhead club are already ahead of the game for the winter window.

Postecoglou has also revealed his recruitment drive for the SUMMER is already underway with the 57-year-old planning his moves well in advance. He's mostly had success in the transfer market to date adding the likes of Cameron Carter-Vickers, Jota, Matt O'Riley, Kyogo Furuhashi, Josip Juranovic and Liel Abada to name a few. It's an approach Rangers hero Ferguson admires and says his former club need to be working towards the same model. January is the first point that Giovanni van Bronckhorst can strengthen and the former skipper reckons they need to try and add to the squad if possible as they look to claw back a seven point gap at the top of the table.

Speaking on Go Radio, Ferguson said: "It sounds like it. He's [Postecoglou] pro-active. That is one thing about him. He's ahead of the game and knows what he wants.

"I actually read something yesterday that he is looking at the summer as well. That is what you have to do. You've got to be ahead as you've maybe not got the money the English clubs have got so you've got to get in early and try and sell the club.

"That is something Rangers need to take note of. They need to try and bring in players in January. Whether that is possible or not if the right ones become available. I am always unsure of it as you are picking up players who are maybe not playing or out of favour at other clubs."

Speaking about his transfer plans earlier this week, Postecoglou said: "A couple of weeks ago, we sort of did our (transfer) planning. The bulk of the work's been done.

"What this time gives me is a little bit of opportunity just to plan for the rest of this year and probably the next summer window."
