Graeme Souness should be allowed to select the next Rangers manager.
That's the view of former Scotland and Celtic forward Frank McAvennie.
The former Rangers player and manager has been involved in the recruitment process for a new manager at his old club.
The Ibrox hierarchy are believed to have turned to the 70-year-old to help in their search for Michael Beale's replacement.
It's said that he was among those from the club who met with Frank Lampard but decided not to pursue the Chelsea legend.
Now, speaking to Football Insider, Macca reckons James Bisgrove and John Bennett should place their faith in Souness to pick the right man for the job.
He said: "Let Graeme Souness pick the manager because he will pick the right person.
"He has the club’s best interest at heart, rather than somebody who is thinking about financial. He will be thinking about the football side rather than the financial side."
The decision appears to be between Philippe Clement and Kevin Muscat. Discussions with the pair will continue into the weekend before Rangers make their final decision.
Chairman Bennett and CEO Bisgrove held interviews with candidates in London this week with both Clement and Muscat thought to have impressed.
It's likely an agreement will be achieved in time for the chosen candidate to be in place for the match against Hibs next Saturday.
Lampard, Scott Parker and Pascal Jansen had been tipped as possible contenders for the Ibrox post before it was whittled down to Muscat and Clement.
Steven Davis took charge of Rangers on an interim basis after Beale was relieved of his duties two weeks ago. He was assisted by Alex Rae, Steven Smith, Brian Gilmour and Colin Stewart.
The Ibrox midfielder was in the dugout for the loss to Aris Limassol and the victory over St Mirren before the international break.
