Rangers 'set' to revisit Morgan Whittaker transfer with Michael Beale ready to launch fresh move

Rangers are set to make a fresh move to land January target Morgan Whittaker, according to a report.

Michael Beale failed to land the Swansea City winger during the winter window but will now revisit the transfer this summer report the Daily Record. The Light Blues boss wanted to bring the 22-year-old to Ibrox alongside Todd Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin as his recruitment drive in Govan got underway.

However, the Welsh club didn't budge and held on to the attacker. He's failed to get a sustained period in the starting XI under Russell Martin with most of his match minutes in the English Championship coming from the bench. Rangers boss Beale is reported to have continued to monitor Whittaker closely and is aware the player is still keen to move to Ibrox. He enjoyed a very successful stint at League One promotion chasing Plymouth Argyle earlier this season and it is believed a number of other English clubs are interested in the wide man.

The Light Blues are set for a big summer of activity with a number of new names already linked with a move north of the border. Manchester United loanee Jack Butland is believed to be 'on the brink' of a move with his Crystal Palace deal expiring. Norwich City's Kieran Dowell is another name in the frame while a reunion with Chris Willock from QPR has also been mentioned.

A number of faces are expected to head in the opposite direction with big name players heading out of contract in the summer. Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent are the two high profile players with veterans Allan McGregor, Steven Davis and Scott Arfield in that group.

Fringe players could also be moved on as Beale begins to put his stamp on the Ibrox squad. He wants a lot of his transfer plans done ahead of the Champions League qualifiers kicking off as he bids to follow in Giovanni van Bronckhorst's steps and navigate the two-legged process to reach the lucrative group stages once again.
