Rangers send highly rated winger out on loan as Falkirk win transfer race for Ibrox starlet

Falkirk have snapped up Kai Kennedy from Rangers on a season-long loan.

The Bairns beat stiff competition to land the 20-year-old winger for the campaign as they bid to make a long-awaited return to the Scottish Championship. They've struggled in League One in recent seasons but will be hoping John McGlynn can fire them back to Scotland's second tier in his first season in charge.

The Rangers youngster has spent a number of previous loan stints away from Ibrox at the likes of Inverness Caley Thistle, Raith Rovers, Dunfermline Athletic and Hamilton in recent times. The highly-rated youngster joined his new team-mates for the first time earlier today and will wear the number 73 shirt at the Falkirk Stadium. On his new recruit, McGlynn said: “Kai is a player Paul and I have worked with previously at Raith Rovers. We enjoyed working with him and he enjoyed working with us, and we hope that will be the same again.

"Kai gives us real competition in the wider areas, he can play at both sides and in a number 10 position.

“He’s going to be in competition with the guys who are already in the team, and he needs to force himself in which is exactly what he’s going to try and do. It will breed good competition with others trying to play well to stay in the team.

“Kai has come here to do well, he wants to kick his career on and we’re looking to help him, and all the other players here at Falkirk with that.

"We’re still looking within the transfer market, and we are still hopeful that we’ll be bringing others in. I would like to thank everyone at Rangers who has made this loan deal possible.”

A club statement read: "Falkirk Football Club is delighted to announce the loan signing of Kai Kennedy from Rangers FC.

"The 20-year-old winger joins The Bairns from the Ibrox side until the end of the 2022/23 season.

"Kai has previously had loan spells with Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Raith Rovers, Dunfermline Athletic and Hamilton Academical.

"The Bairns beat approaches from several other clubs to secure a loan deal for the highly rated youngster, who joined up this morning with his new teammates for a first day of training and will wear squad number 73 for the season."
