Rangers see Morgan Whittaker transfer offer rejected as Russell Martin issues nine-word response

Russell Martin has confirmed Rangers have had a bid knocked back for Morgan Whittaker as he issued a nine-word response.

The Swansea City head coach - who had a spell at the Light Blues during his playing career - provided the update earlier today as Michael Beale bids to add his own style of player to the current crop he has at Ibrox. Todd Cantwell at Norwich City is another player who has been strongly linked with a move north of the border with his deal at Carrow Road expiring in the summer.

On Whittaker and a bid from Rangers, Martin said: "We have rejected an offer from them, that's it." Discussing the Ibrox transfer target and team-mate Michael Obafemi, he continued: "No-one is selling anyone on the cheap - they are good players. We will just have to wait and see. It's not my remit - I don't value the players, I don't negotiate with the other clubs.

"We have rejected bids for Michael and Morgan. That's where that remains really. I am really bored of talking about it. I understand you have to ask the question but until someone goes I will just keep repeating the same answer."

Speaking in his press-conference ahead of tonight's showdown with Kilmarnock, Beale stated he doesn't want fillers for his squad. He wants to recruit players who can ultimately become leaders and go on and take the club to a new level and be top stars.

He said: “I know the recruitment strategy at this club and it is something I believe in. Its something I was heavily involved in before when you look back at some of the players we recruited. It was clear that there was a connection between staff and players.

"As a coach I like to recruit people for specific roles. I like real clarity on where they are going to play. It’s getting that lovely mix between now and future. I don’t want any fillers, I want leaders – people that can go on and be top players for this club moving forward.”
