The famous Rangers dressing room portrait of Queen Elizabeth II has finally been replaced with an image of her son, King Charles III.
The picture of the late monarch has been a constant feature of the home changing room at Ibrox since Graeme Souness took over as manager in 1986. However, Queen Elizabeth died earlier this year on 8 September, Following her death and a period of mourning, the club have now updated the framed photograph that hangs on the wall.
King Charles III, former the Prince of Wales, ascended to the throne following his mother's death and will be officially coronated next year. Rangers hosted Bayer Leverkusen ina. friendly on Saturday afternoon for Michael Beale' s first match in the dugout since replacing Gio van Bronckhorst as manager. And there was a new face looking down on James Tavernier and his teammates ahead of the clash against the Bundesliga side.
The club shared the new pic in a pre-match tweet captioned: 'God Save the King'. Beale watched his side run out 3-0 winners. Malik Tillman's double had them 2-0 up before Scott Arfield made things comfortable with a late third.
Tavernier could even afford to miss a penalty in the second half. Attention will now turn to the resumption of Premiership action next week.
Rangers host Hibs at Ibrox for Beale's first competitive match in charge of the team. It's a chance to close the gap on Celtic, temporarily at least, with the Hoops not in action until two days later when they travel to Pittodrie to face Aberdeen in the lunchtime kick-off.
