Jack Butland 5
Enduring a seriously testing time as Rangers No1. His first action of the night was picking the ball out of the net after Franjo Ivanovic poked the ball through his legs, but was relieved to be saved by the offside flank. Survived another scare in the second half as Tavernier stopped a certain goal after the keeper was easily rounded by Mohammed Fuseini. An almost inevitable consolation goal came as Kevin Mac Allister's looping header caught him off-guard.
Leon King 6
Thrown in amid a defensive crisis at Rangers and showed determination to perform by winning an aerial duel in the first minute and taking a nasty head knock in the process. Bravely played on but had to be withdrawn after 13 minutes due to a vision issue.
James Tavernier 7
Shoehorned into centre-back after impressing there at Old Trafford. Slightly unorthodox in dealing with Union attacks but did his job and made some crucial interventions. Still managed to show his crossing ability with an inch-perfect ball to Nico Raskin for the opener. Was culpable of being beaten by a simple long-ball but made up for it with a magnificent block to deny Fuseini with the goal at his mercy.
Robin Propper 6
Made his impact in the Union SG box rather than his own as he took attention of two defenders to allow Nico Raskin to slip clear and nod home. Largely comfortable throughout but was not hugely tested. Perhaps a little weak in moments but wasn't punished by a blunt Union frontline.
Jefte 6
Had his name in the headlines earlier this week with talk of transfer interest from Chelsea in the future but didn't play a starring role at Ibrox. The Brazilian full-back was steady if unspectacular in the victory. Did enough to play his part in the win but certainly wasn't his best performance in the competition this season.
Mohamed Diomande 7
A battling performance from the midfielder who looks very comfortable alongside Raskin in midfield. Not afraid to get involved in the ugly side of the game, Diomande did the dirty work while also kick-starting some counter-attacks. Picked up a silly yellow for kicking the ball away in the closing stages.
Nico Raskin 8
Continued his impressive run of form under Philippe Clement. Dogged in the midfield but more than capable of defence-splitting passes and moments of sheer quality. Opened the scoring with a superb header from Tavernier's inviting cross. Becoming a more and more important player for Rangers with every passing week.
Vaclav Cerny 7
Lively as ever on the wing for Rangers and caused problems for USG with his direct running. Was composed to slot home a second for Rangers in the second half after a smart counter-attack. Was desperately unlucky to see a long-range strike hit the outside of the post moments later. Withdrawn shortly after to preserve his fitness with the job done.
Nedim Bajrami 6
The Albanian midfielder is not short of technique and some of his class was on display at Ibrox in a central role at the top of the midfield five. Often deployed in wide position this was a sign of his ability in the number 10 role. While he wasn't unplayable, the midfielder did show a creative spark to help craft attacks. An option right across the midfield for Rangers. Subbed off ten minutes before the end.
Hamza Igamane 6
Keen to show his bag of tricks with a sublime flick after eight minutes but in truth was off the boil from then on. Plenty of running but lacked a crucial final ball or killer touch as he continually cut inside from his wide right berth. Has been far more effective in a central role rather than on the flank where he offered limited width.
Cyriel Dessers 8
So close to scoring just before half-time. Brilliant skill partnered with persistence but then saw effort curl wide courtesy of a deflection. Seconds later had ball in the net but was inches offside. Created Rangers' second as he burst down the left flank, danced past Sykes and teed up Cerny. Denied a goal for himselt in stoppage time as poked effort was well held.
SUBSTITUTIONS
Ross McCausland (for King, 13) 5
Replaced the injured King in the early stages and did well playing out of position at right-back. Booked in the first half but managed the game well to avoid any red card concerns. Put in a solid shift defensively and was keen to race forward whenever it was on.
John Souttar (for Cerny, 64) 5
Given the final half-hour on his return to Rangers action. Clearly, not fit to start but looked comfortable on his time on the pitch. Big challenge to prevent Kevin Rodriguez from having a sight on goal.
Zak Lovelace (for Igamane, 80) 3
More minutes for the young forward having been increasingly involved in the Rangers first-team in recent weeks.
Paul Nsio (for Bajrami, 80) 3
On for final ten minutes but had limited impact on the tie.
