It's the time of year when it’s not just the leaves that start falling. Managers begin to tumble when the nights draw in too and already some see a few jackets are on shoogly nails. A chunk of Rangers and Hearts fans are already taking names and here’s another one to add to the list – David Martindale.
Stephen Johnstone, Ardentiny, said: “Never mind top six for Livingston’s David Martindale, he has taken them as far as he can on a shoe string now it's time for a bigger club like Hearts, Hibs or even Rangers to employ him as their next manager. He is the miracle man who can work wonders with half their budgets and the way these teams are playing their respective managers need a miracle to stay in their jobs.”
Meanwhile, Bill Park, Bathgate, said: “Robert Livingstone must be getting too much sun in Palm Beach with his suggestions for Rangers new manager. Souness, Gerrard and Brendan Rogers, no thanks. Michael Beale is a possibility, as he played such an important part in Rangers winning their record breaking 55.”
Caller George Wilson said there isn't much between the Old Firm but Celtic fan Craig Gordon, Ayr, said: “We don’t need to be more than two points ahead of Rangers to know we are a better team. We are giving teams a right good game in Europe instead of being utterly humiliated, we have recently trounced them 4-0, have just won the double and have a squad bursting with young talent and a top manager, not mention £30m in the bank, which George Wilson is gutted about.”
Arrin Geddes emailed: “George Wilson thinks his team and Celtic are very alike but I stopped watching their game on Sunday as my eyes were in pain and Alan Flett’s continual unfounded insistence that Celtic are an embarrassment actually makes him the embarrassment.”
James Forrest hit his ton at the weekend but Alan Flett , said: “Forrest is a Celtic legend? You’ve got to be joking. Along with Calum McGregor and Scott Brown, they are the most overhyped Scottish players of their generation.
“They’ve only had successful club careers because they were lucky to be part of a Celtic team that had no competition for 10 years. Top players do not spend their entire careers in Scotland.”
Hibs boss Lee Johnson didn’t hold back after the Celtic hammering. But James Wallace , via email, said: “Johnson was a bit over critical of his team's performance.
“Most teams who play Celtic sit in and defend, whereas Hibs at least had a go, which never paid off as they were caught on the break every time. If you take away the Grobbelaaresque performance by David Marshall, a horrendous gift by a 19 year old, and at least two offside goals which nobody picked up on, the inevitable victory wasn't as emphatic after all.”
Elsewhere, Ian Renton, Johnstone, said: “I am getting annoyed by ex-players who support the use of ‘professional fouls’ to prevent goals. Apparently Motherwell should have committed a ‘tactical foul’ to prevent Tillman scoring for Rangers. I have another word for it – cheating. What sort of example encourages young people that anything goes in life to achieve their selfish goals, and winning is everything.”
When it comes to the Hotline , winning is everything.
