Rangers punter fears Christmas conspiracy carve-up that comes bearing Celtic title gifts - Hotline

Ange Postecoglou got the plaudits from Pittodrie. Jim Goodwin just got panned.

The Hotline had plenty to say about Celtic’s 1-0 win over Aberdeen in the Granite City which kept them nine clear at the top of the Premiership. Goodwin’s defensive set-up almost kept the champions at bay before Callum McGregor’s 87th minute winner, but the approach did not go down too well with many.

Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, said: "Postecoglou’s well-known mantra is we never stop, but after witnessing yet another dramatic late win, it could be changed to we never panic. However, I have to admit, Aberdeen played like a side fearing relegation instead of trying to close the gap on Rangers in second place and I’ll be astonished if they show the same negative attitude on Tuesday.” Jack Armstrong, Bathgate, said: “I like Ange’s style and Aberdeen got exactly what they deserved. To defend like that for 90 mins on your own midden is shocking. But if you are going to keep trying to dance the ball into the net, then you need players with good skills and vision."

Bill Lockerbie, Northampton, continued: “Having witnessed the beauty of the World Cup, on Saturday we were subjected to the beast of the SPFL in Aberdeen. Like Willie Miller, I hope I don’t have to sit through another 90 minutes like that. Unfortunately, with Livingston and St Johnstone up next, oh yes we will!”

Charles Buchanan sent an email to say: “That was as anti-football as it gets. Jim Goodwin should be embarrassed for himself and Aberdeen fans. I thought football was about trying to win a game. It was a Good-Win for Celtic.”

Andrew Lamb, Fraserburgh, said: “Despite the hype over Dons strikers, Joe Hart probably didn’t have a single save to make against Aberdeen. Add to that, Celtic were camped in Aberdeen’s 18-yard box for most of the game. Same old result, too.”

Michael Emonds, Northampton, had words of praise for a Celtic hero after the victory in the Granite City.

He said: “Congratulations to James Forrest for his 100th goal assist to go with his 100+ goals and do what only Jimmy Johnstone and Henrik Larsson have done before him at Celtic. Commiserations to Aberdeen fans paying their hard-earned to watch that anti-football dross served up and then defended by their manager. Shame on him. He’ll get football banned.”

But David Bryce, Troon, said: “Celtic won but the performance was very poor. O’Riley, Hatate, Maeda, Kyogo and Jota should all be dropped for the upcoming games. It’s time Forrest, Turnbull and Abada got a run in the team. I have to say that Aberdeen's approach was disgraceful for a home team. They are absolutely woeful.”

Henry Moffat, Stirling, said: “What a sickener that must be to the Rangers fans watching Celtic bag yet another late winner, especially when they know there is another £40m guaranteed Champions League pot waiting for us if we win it.”

Scott Gowers, Edinburgh, isn’t happy with fixture scheduling as he said: “Why on earth are Rangers having to travel to Aberdeen and then to Dingwall at this time of year in the same week? It’s unheard of two midweek league games in Scotland within such a short time with one team covering so much distance.

“Surely to avoid unavoidable postponements and conspiracies, is it not possible that clubs during the festive period or leading up to and a bit after should face regional games as weather and distance often lead to postponements. This isn’t having a go at anybody as obviously the likes of Ross County and Aberdeen have to travel further on a weekly basis when playing away.”
