Rangers player ratings vs St Johnstone as Borna Barisic sends Scottish Cup holders into last 16

Rangers are into the hat for the round of 16 draw after victory over St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park.

Borna Barisic was the hero on the day as his cracking finish into the top corner at the end of the first-half proved to be the difference on a difficult looking surface. The strike ended a drought of two years since his last goal and it proved a vital one. The Light Blues are the holders of the Scottish Cup and will have aspirations of retaining the famous old trophy under Michael Beale.

The strike came after an excellent flick from Malik Tillman allowed Fashion Sakala the chance to run in on goal and strike on the angle with his effort coming back off the base of the post before making it out to his team-mate who did the rest. The result in Perth also maintains the unbeaten run under the new management and completes the perfect week after a League Cup semi-final win over Aberdeen at Hampden and a midweek win under the lights over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park. Here's how we rated the Ibrox men.

READ MORE: Michael Beale reveals Rangers transfer 'enquiries' as he lifts lid on Nicolas Raskin and Morgan Whittaker

Allan McGregor - 6

Veteran back in goal as the rotation between the sticks continues. Not real saves of note.

James Tavernier - 6

Skipper continues to enjoying playing higher role under Beale. Always looking to get forward and create. Goal-line saving clearance.

Connor Goldson - 6

The main man in the defence. Fully up to speed now after his injury lay-off. Key to this Rangers side. Defended well. Denied a goal from an excellent save. Booked.

Ben Davies - 6

Continues to kick-start his Rangers career as first choice with Goldson. Solid shift and looks over his injury woes.

Borna Barisic - 8

Brilliant last ditch tackle to deny Drey Wright a run in on goal. Stunning first time goal for opener. First strike in two years!

John Lundstram - 6

Hard shift in the midfield. Constant worker and seems to be the main main with Jack and Kamara rotated beside him.

Ryan Jack - 6

Back in for Kamara. Similar style players. Hard shift on a tough surface. Did his job. Subbed.

Malik Tillman - 7

Back after the midweek win over Kilmarnock. Excellent involvement with backheel in goal build-up. When he is on it, he is unplayable at times. Needs to be at it more often. Booked.

Fashion JR - 7

Good chance before 20 minute mark but fired wide. Smashed effort off post in build-up to opener. Pace and direct style a real threat. Arguably best player under the Beale era to date.

Ryan Kent - 6

Quiet by his standards after busy match vs Kilmarnock. Subbed late on.

Alfredo Morelos - 6

Two goals last time out and a real handful. But much quieter this time around. Late effort cleared off the line. Subbed.

Subs

Glen Kamara - 4

On for Malik Tillman with 25 to play. Worked hard to help visitors progress.

Scott Wright - 4

On for Fashion Sakala. Grabbed an assist almost instantly at Hampden last week. Another run out here. Denied by a top save.

Alex Lowry - 2

Highly-rated youngster one the fans want to see more action from. Given last ten minutes in Perth.

Antonio Colak - 2

On for the last minute. Back from latest injury issue.

Scott Arfield - 2

Also on for the final minute to eat up some time. One who can find himself unlucky not to feature more.
