Rangers player ratings v St Johnstone as Barisic and Kent sum up shock defeat that hurts title hope

Rangers fell to a shock 2-1 defeat in their latest Premiership match with St Johnstone.

The Light Blues had an astonishing 17 shots on goal in the first 30 minutes as they bombarded their hosts with chance after chance, but there was no end product. Fashion Sakala cracked the crossbar with their closest effort while Antonio Colak was unfortunate not to turn in a ball across the box. They were then made to pay for that as James Brown's first career goal went down as a tremendous effort from outside the box to leave the Ibrox side stunned.

Nicky Clark then landed a hammer blow by doubling the hosts lead and a James Tavernier reply could do nothing to soften their misery. Already their were calls for manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst to leave amid waning performances and that will only grow know they're seven points behind in the title race. Here is how we rated the Rangers players in Perth.

Allan McGregor - 5

Had literally nothing to do in the first half as St Johnstone failed to have as much as a shot. Beat comfortably for the second.

James Tavernier - 6

One of the main men hitting the Saints box but crucially gave the ball away as Saints scored. Got a goal to give his side a lifeline but not enough.

Ben Davies - 5

Quick return from injury is a boost. Not a lot to deal with but had to remain switched on in case of danger, but clearance before goal was too soft.

Leon King - 5

Saints threw little at the defence but landed a sucker punch. Was being asked to play quicker by his peers and Clark burst through the centre of defence to score.

Borna Barisic - 4

Little work needed defensively so was tasked with more attacking responsibility. His left-hand side opened up a couple of times and along with Kent, didn't close down Brown quick enough. Lost out in a few tackles.

James Sands - 6

Back in midfield with enough defensive reinforcement. Kept things ticking over and was the best of the midfield three.

John Lundstram - 5

Tasked with bringing the ball from deep and driving into the Saints half. Lost the ball and failed in a tackle before half-time to costly effect.

Malik Tillman - 5

A couple of really nice touches in midfield and played plenty of searching passes into the forward line. Got frustrated at times before influence faded.

Fashion Sakala- 6

So close to opening the scoring as his headed effort smashed the bar. Culpable in the Saints opener as Lundstram demanded he make a run. Couldn't score.

Ryan Kent- 4

No end product for the misfiring winger. Had to get out to the first goal quicker but didn't. Dribble out of play summed his afternoon up before getting hooked.

Antonio Colak - 5

A good opening early doors but it passed him by. Didn't have his shooting boots on when his team needed them most.

Scott Arfield - 4

Came on after an hour. First touch let him down and couldn't provide enough influence to inspire change in the match.

Alfredo Morelos - 3

Came on to try and save his teams blushes. Little impact of note which has been the story of his season so far.

Rabbi Matondo - 3

Another attacking outlet thrown on but much like the others, no impact.

Glen Kamara - 3

A late appearance on the comeback trail from injury.
