Rangers player ratings as Todd Cantwell standout performer despite Celtic loss

Allan McGregor 6

Had little chance of stopping Jota's close-range winner. Smart double stop in the first half as Celtic pressured and down well to deny Kyogo's low-drive strike in the second half.

James Tavernier 7

Involved in a relentless duel with Daizen Maeda on the right flank. Completely switched off for Jota's winner. Desperately unlucky not to equalise with terrific curling effort that struck the base of the post. One of the few genuine goal threats in the Rangers side at Hampden.

Connor Goldson 6

A huge inclusion for Rangers with Michael Beale deeming him fit to play the match in its entirety. Solid enough at the heart of defence but wasn't helped by some less-than-convincing defending around him. Didn't look 100 percent but was dependable as ever for the Ibrox side.

Ben Davies 6

Relieved to not make any major mistakes like in the last meeting between the sides. Relatively comfortable for large spells but didn't inspire in his defending or drive into midfield and force his side forward.

Borna Barisic 5

Comedy defending in the build-up to the Celtic winner as he, Raskin and Lundstram allowed Maeda to pinch the ball in the box. Competed well against Alistair Johnston and Jota for most of the match but was forced off late on after heavy collision with the former earlier in the second half.

Nico Raskin 6

Started at Hampden despite late swirling rumours he would miss out. Always looking for the ball and keen to try and dictate but just couldn't control proceedings in the centre. A few nice touches but just not enough.

John Lundstram 7

Neat and tidy on the ball and put in his fair share of tackles in the engine room. Put in a serious shift in a match not made for midfielders but wasn't helped as forwards fail to take advantage of any periods of possession.

Todd Cantwell 8

A standout performer in the Rangers ranks. Composed on the ball, creative going forward and more than willing to fulfil his defensive duties. A display packed with endeavour and entrepreneurship in the centre but was at times on a one-man mission and hiding to nothing at Hampden.

Malik Tillman 5

A gutting moment for the US international as he trudged off injured just after the half hour. Midfielder looked teary as he suffered a suspected hamstring issue after a fairly bright showing at the national stadium. Serious fears over whether he will feature again this term.

Ryan Kent 4

A frustratingly anonymous performance from the winger who had little impact from the left. Was nullified by Johnston and was closer to assisting his opposition than his team-mates with a slack backpass in the first 45 minutes. Hauled off at the break.

Alfredo Morelos 4

Not a memorable showing for the Colombian striker. Limited in his involvement and lacklustre when he did have time on the ball. Involved in a flashpoint with Joe Hart but escaped any punishment for confrontation.

Scott Arfield (for Tillman, 36) 6

Industrious and positive for much of his substitute showing. Didn't have as much ability to provide incisive runs into the box but tried his luck on a handful of occasions when he found space on the edge of the box.

Fashion Sakala (for Kent, 45) 5

Full of industry and energy after his half-time introduction but lacked a killer blow. Denied by Cameron Carter-Vickers clearance off the line before fluffing strike as open goal glared from Tavernier's effort off post.

Ridvan Yilmaz (for Barisic, 74) 3

A rare chance to impress for the Turkish full-back but couldn't manage to muster up much creativity in the final 20 minutes.

Rabbi Matondo (for Raskin, 74) 3

Given final 15 minutes to make a difference. Lively and a different threat for Celtic to manage but couldn't carve out a clear-cut chance.

Ianis Hagi (for Morelos, 83) 2

Very little involvement as Rangers desperately pushed for a leveller.
