Rangers are understood to have won the race for Todd Cantwell as he says his goodbyes to Norwich. Meanwhile they have reportedly seen a second bid for Morgan Whittaker rejected as Swansea stand firm over the forward.
Football Scotland report the Ibrox side have now won the race for Cantwell despite interest from elsewhere in the Championship. The 24-year-old has been atop Beale's wanted list and it's claimed the Norwich City star has said his goodbyes. A fee has said to have been agreed for the former England U21 star who was being watched by PSV Eindhoven.
Rangers are interested in signing 22-year-old Whittaker after Swansea recalled him from a goal-laden spell at Plymouth and Swans boss Russell Martin revealed they had rejected one bid from Rangers. Michael Beale denied that but Fabrizio Romano now reports a second offer has been made, and subsequently turfed out alongside the first.
It was reported the first bid was "well short" of the Championship side's valuation and Romano now claims Rangers latest offer was worth £1.5m but that has also been snubbed. Interestingly FIFA rules state that a player can only play for two clubs in any given season - and with Martin seemingly set to include him in the squad against his old club QPR on Saturday, he could end up being ineligible to play for Rangers if he features.
When asked about Martin's comments, Beale said: "Did he really (say that)? I didn’t know we had made a bid - that’s not what I’ve been told in-house”.
