Rangers North American supporters group call for Sydney Super Cup U-turn as they express 'extreme disappointment'

Rangers' North American Supporters Group (NARSA) have demanded the club reverse their decision to join the Sydney Super Cup.

The Ibrox club have come under fire from fans in the past 24 hours after Wednesday’s confirmation they will join Celtic in the Down Under mini-tournament in November.

Gio van Bronckhorst has defender their involvement while Rangers themselves insist they are "delighted" to take part.

But supporters have been left fuming with influential groups Club 1872 and the Union Bears among those to formally call out the board.

Now NARSA have added their voice as they said in a statement on Twitter: "Rangers North American Supporters Group NARSA have written formally to Rangers FC expressing our extreme disappointment with both the decision and the communications surrounding the ‘friendly’ match in Australia, also asking the club to reverse their decision.

"We await a response."

NARSA are one of the largest Rangers supporters' groups outside of Europe, having operated since 1992. They hold regular conventions with up to 1,000 members in attendance.

Speaking after the announcement Gers commercial director James Bisgrove insisted it was a financial no-brainer.

He told Rangers TV: “We’ve been in negotiations for a few weeks and to be frank it’s of a sizeable benefit to the club from a commercial perspective, to an extent we’ve never had an offer of this level for two friendly games.

"To put some context around this, we’ve spoken before and Stewart Robertson has spoken before about the broadcast and media values here in Scotland and the club’s view on that has been well documented.

“The participation in this event over eight days will benefit the club to the same level as an entire season in the SPFL for two friendly games."

But supporters have been left unconvinced with the Union Bears branding it "disgusting".
