Rangers must win more to reignite positive fan connection amid Ibrox protests

Kris Boyd has suggested Rangers must just simply win more games of football if they want to get the fans back on side.

The Union Bears and many Rangers supporters inside Ibrox staged a protest by leaving the Scottish Premiership clash with St Johnstone on the 55th minute.

Manager Philippe Clement admitted he understood why people were unhappy even if he felt it affected their second half performance in the 3-1 win.

Boyd believes Rangers fans had every right to expect better from their team this season, especially since they trail Celtic by 15 points in the league table.

That's mostly down to so many abject away performances and is why the former Rangers striker can empathise with angry punters, some who held up banners directed at the club's board.

"There's no doubt there is [a disconnect between supporters and the club," he told Sky Sports. "I think a lot of the fans have probably had a go at the Union Bears as well, so there's definitely disconnect there.

"Rangers have won the game today, it's something to build on and gives them the opportunity to go and get another home win on Wednesday night against Aberdeen. But the key thing for Rangers is that away form, that needs to improve.

"To get that connection back you need to start winning games away from home. The fans spend a lot of money and they expect better.

"Listen, fans groups, everybody can say what they want. You don't want to see it but you can say what you want when you've had enough."

Probed by host Eilidh Barbour on how Rangers can create unity again, Boyd stated: "Win games of football. I know it sounds simple but there's a lot of key factors that have to happen for that to take place. But win games of football.

"I think Rangers fans have looked at it for a period of time now. You go back to winning the league and there has been a decline since. I know there's been a European final in there as well after that, but there has been a decline.

"One I think is the standard of player, that's dropped off. Rangers need to find a way of better recruitment and start winning games of football because they won't accept where they are right now that's for sure."
