Rangers misfit Sam Lammers 'one step away' from Ibrox transfer exit

Sam Lammers is reportedly "one step away" from a Rangers transfer exit.

The Ibrox misfit struggled during his time in Glasgow before being shipped out on loan last season.

Signed by Michael Beale last summer for £3.5m, Lammers played 31 times for Rangers but only scored twice.

He was allowed to leave the club on loan in January to return to his homeland in the Netherlands where he joined FC Utrecht.

Lammers enjoyed a fruitful spell in the Eredivisie as he netted 11 times in 20 outings for his loan club.

The striker, 27, returned to Rangers this summer for pre-season and was involved in a bounce game with the Rangers B team.

Now, he could finally be set to depart the club on permanent terms, with reports that FC Twente is closing in on a deal.

TutooMercato claim Twente are keen on bringing Lammers back to the Netherlands with Rangers willing to let the striker cut ties despite having three years left on his contract.

The outlet reports Lammers performances for Utrecht opened the doors for a move to Twente with the club "very close" to striking a deal.

An agreement could aid Philippe Clement's hopes to further add to his squad this summer after making six signings so far.

Jefte, Oscar Cortes, Liam Kelly, Clinton Nsiala, Connor Barron and Hamza Igamane have all checked in at Ibrox.

But Clement is unable to further bolster his squad without selling players first.

“That’s the reality,” Clement says when asked if his transfer plans were dependent on players leaving this summer. “That’s the reality that the board told me a few months ago.

“I know this, the recruitment team knows this also. This is the reality of the club. I had other expectations when I came in in October, I have to say.
