Rangers managerial talks with Clement & Muscat to continue into weekend

Rangers chiefs are set to continue discussions with Philippe Clement and Kevin Muscat into the weekend.

The pair have advanced to the final stages of the recruitment process to succeed Michael Beale in the Ibrox dugout.

Chairman John Bennett and James Bisgrove held interviews with candidates in London this week with both Clement and Muscat thought to have impressed.

The Rangers Review reports that it's likely an agreement will be achieved in time for the chosen candidate to be in place for the match against Hibs next Saturday.

Frank Lampard, Scott Parker and Pascal Jansen had been tipped as possible contenders for the Ibrox post before it was whittled down to Muscat and Clement.

Steven Davis took charge of Rangers on an interim basis after Beale was relieved of his duties two weeks ago. He was assisted by Alex Rae, Steven Smith, Brian Gilmour and Colin Stewart.

The Ibrox midfielder was in the dugout for the loss to Aris Limassol and the victory over St Mirren before the international break.

On his future, Davis said: “I have always thought that down the line I would go into management. This opportunity came out of the blue and it has been a steep learning curve.

“I think I have learned a lot over the two games I have done this job. I have had a lot of support behind me in terms of the staff behind me and in the building.  That has been massive for me and for the players as well.

“I just wanted to give them the tools to get a performance to get a performance and result over the two games. We didn’t do it on Thursday but I am delighted for them – and for everybody at the club – that we have managed to get a result today.”
