Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst reveals 'difficult' Alfredo Morelos call as he ponders Napoli selections

Alfredo Morelos

GIOVANNI VAN BRONCKHORST insists Alfredo Morelos is fit and firing after responding to his Champions League 'wake-up call' last month.

The striker was left out of the squad for the play-off round victory over PSV Eindhoven as his fitness and mentality were questioned in public and behind closed doors.

Van Bronckhorst and Morelos held a heart-to-heart in the days following that decision and he returned to action during the 4-0 defeat to Celtic at Parkhead.

Now he could challenge for a starting spot against Napoli as Van Bronckhorst gets set to decide between the Colombian and summer signing Antonio Colak for the Group A showdown.

Van Bronckhorst said: "He’s definitely better than a couple of weeks ago, both mentally and physically.

"He is training really well. I had a good conversation with him.

"Not being involved against PSV was, I think, a big wake-up call. After that, he has done really well.

"He is in a far better place than in the last couple of weeks. He makes it difficult for me now to decide who to start."
