Rangers make 'breakthrough' in Cyriel Dessers transfer pursuit

Rangers have reportedly made a breakthrough in their transfer pursuit of Cyriel Dessers.

It's claimed Michael Beale has tracked the striker for weeks and is nearing a deal to bring him to Ibrox.

Cremonese - who were relegated from Serie A this season - had reportedly been demanding £7m for the Nigerian.

However, now The Scottish Sun claim Rangers have progressed towards a deal worth up to £4.4million.

The report claims sources in Italy have revealed a compromise is being worked on by the clubs over the fee with £3.5million due up front.

Rangers could also pay an extra £900,000 in add-ons, the report states.

Dessers scored six times in the Italian top flight this season and assisted twice.

But it's thought the striker is interested in a transfer move away from Cremonese after relegation to Serie B.

Meanwhile, Borna Barisic admitted "you never know in football" as he responded to questions over his future at Rangers.

He explained: "I have a contract with Rangers for one more year. I have started negotiations with the club.

"I don't want to say anything because you never know in football.

"However, I have a great relationship with everyone at the club and we will find the best solution. There's always speculation about my future. it reaches me - but little of it is true.
