Motherwell star Sean Goss doesn’t score many goals, but has now bagged two spectacular free kicks against Hibs in his career.
The 27-year-old midfielder scored the opener in Motherwell’s 3-1 win at Hibs yesterday, curling a stunner into the top right corner, via the crossbar, just eight minutes in.
Kevin van Veen then scored a penalty and a rocket of a free kick either side of a Kevin Nisbet header, as the Steelmen moved up to eighth in the Premiership table.
Goss revealed that wasn’t the only time he popped in a free-kick against Hibs, having also scored in a 2-1 defeat during a loan spell at Rangers from QPR in February 2018.
He said: “I’ve had a similar one against Hibs before, so that’s quite funny.
“Hopefully I’ll get a few more free kicks around the box against Hibs because I’d like to fancy myself.
“It seems like Hibs are one of those teams that I scored against.
“I don’t score against many teams, to be fair, but I’ll take it all day.
“It was a good time for me to get my first goal of the season, and I feel it’s well overdue, but I’m delighted with that.”
Goss reckons Motherwell can start to look up the way now, given they’re 11 points clear of basement side Dundee United, and nine above Ross County, who welcome Celtic in the lunchtime kick-off today.
“I’m delighted with the boys,” said the former Shrewsbury star. “I thought we were excellent, and we look to kick on from here.
“The mood is really good. Hibs is a tough place to come to, so when you come here, put in a performance and score three goals... all the lads are buzzing.
“I think we’re clear of the bottom now, and we want to be as far away from that as possible. We know there are points to get in the next games, as well.
“We try not to look behind us, we want to look ahead and see how far up the table we can finish.”
Motherwell now have back-to-back home games against Livingston and Dundee United as they eye seventh place, and Goss reckons it’s there for the taking.
“It’s a good opportunity to move up the table and get a good run going,” he said.
“We were unlucky not to get anything against Rangers in the end, but two home games are coming up and we’d like to fancy our chances of getting two more wins.
“I think it’s massive that we’re at home. We know what it’s like going there [Livi], the pitch isn’t good, so we’d like to fancy our chances of getting a result, again.
“It’s in front of our own fans and that makes a big difference as well – they were brilliant, supported us the whole way through, even when we conceded, and they got us over the line.”
