Rangers legend Andy Goram says Europa League run is 'the best medicine' after shock cancer diagnosis

Andy Goram says Rangers ' incredible Europa League run has been "the best medicine" following his shock cancer diagnosis.

The Ibrox legend, speaking at his first public appearance since undergoing treatment, delighted fans as he spoke at a supporters' dinner in Glasgow.

The 58-year-old hailed the Light Blues for beating RB Leipzig on Thursday to set up a final showdown against Eintracht Frankfurt in Seville next week.

The former goalkeeper, who appeared to have lost weight, spoke to guests and ex-teammates at the event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the club's Cup Winners’ Cup triumph in Barcelona in 1972 on Friday.

Taking to the microphone, Goram said: “Last night was the best medicine I’ve ever f****** had.”

Goram, dubbed as 'The Goalie' by supporters, received applause before he continued: “Roll on Seville.”

He was then hugged by a pal as he made his way back to his seat in what was emotional scenes.

After the clip was posted on social media supporters offered words of support to the club legend.

One fan said: "Get well soon Andy, we’ll bring it home for you."

Another said: "Great to see this. Wishing him a speedy recovery."

While a third added: “He’s a fighter. Fingers crossed."

In his seven years at Ibrox, Goram won a number of honours and was capped 43 times by Scotland.

Last month news of Goram’s health battle was revealed by Rangers.

In a statement, they said: “Rangers can confirm our legendary goalkeeper Andy Goram is undergoing treatment for cancer in a local hospital.

“Club officials are in regular contact with Andy and his family. Everyone at Rangers wishes ‘The Goalie’ well at this difficult time.”

Goram joined Rangers in 1991 following spells at Oldham Athletic and Hibs. He also played for Motherwell and Hamilton, and also had a loan spell at Manchester United in 2001, making two appearances.

His time at the Premier League club saw him pick up a title winners medal for the 2000/2001 season.
