Rangers 'keeping tabs' on Ghana World Cup star - but face transfer competition from EPL

Rangers are keeping tabs on Ghana World Cup star Antoine Semenyo - but face major English Premier League competition, according to a report.

The Bristol City striker - who is currently in Qatar and climbed off the bench against Portugal - has netted five goals in all competitions this season with four coming at club level and one just before the finals in an international warm-up clash with Switzerland. Football Scotland report that the 22-year-old has been watched by Ibrox scouts over the past couple of months but his time at the global tournament could potentially make life tougher in terms of snapping up the striker.

Another factor is the sacking of Giovanni van Bronckhorst earlier this week with the Dutchman given the boot after a series of poor result and performances that has left the Light Blues trailing Celtic and Ange Postecoglou at the Premiership summit by nine points. This could have a knock on effect as the striker may not be one the next manager is a fan of or suit the style of play he wants to implement. But should they move for the hitman then they'd face a battle with teams in England's top flight for his signature.

The same report states that Celtic had been keeping tabs on the striker's progress with his representative Tony Finnigan confirming the club had been in tough to learn about his character off the pitch.

Rangers will be looking to confirm of their next manager as soon as possible with the players due to report back and get preparations into full gear ahead of the second half of the season.

Michael Beale - who served as No2 under Steven Gerrard's time at the club - is the frontrunner to make the switch from QPR.

A striker could be a transfer priority with Alfredo Morelos free to talk to other clubs come January and Kemar Roofe suffering from a series of injuries of late. That leaves just Antonio Colak - who has hit the ground running since his arrival - and youth team options up top.
