Rangers are interested in signing Morgan Whittaker from Swansea City, WalesOnline understands.
The versatile attacker was recalled from his season-long loan spell with Plymouth Argyle earlier this month but has not featured for the Swans since returning to south Wales.
Indeed, the club have been mulling over the next move for the former Derby County youth product, whether it be retaining him in their squad to play a part in their play-off push or selling him to raise funds to pursue other targets.
Russell Martin last week confirmed they have already turned down a bid from one club for the 22-year-old.
And it's understood Scottish Premiership outfit Rangers are the side whose offer was knocked back by the Swans.
Whittaker scored nine goals and registered seven assists during his time with Plymouth, and the Pilgrims explored the option of signing the frontman on a permanent basis before he was recalled by the Swans.
However, they were unable to meet Swansea's valuation of the young Englishman and are not in a position to sign him permanently. Plymouth's League One promotion rivals Ipswich Town were previously interested in a deal for Whittaker, although they have since signed Nathan Broadhead from Everton for around £1.5m and are not expected to make a move for the Swansea man.
Speaking before the 3-1 win over Sunderland, Swans boss Martin confirmed Whittaker would not travel to the Stadium of Light given that an appearance for Swansea this month would make him ineligible to feature for a different club, other than Plymouth, beyond the January transfer window.
"I think it's quite some way short at the moment," said Martin on the bid received for Whittaker. "With that in mind, Morgan is probably not going to be involved at the weekend because, we had a good chat yesterday, with that looming over his head, we need to see where that's going to go."
