Rangers icon rues Poland penalty as Ibrox legend labels decision against Scotland 'absolutely pathetic'

Rangers legends Ally McCoist and Kris Boyd, plus Motherwell hero James McFadden, have slammed a penalty call against Scotland in their friendly with Poland.

Kieran Tierney's first international goal looked to have given Steve Clarke's side a merited 1-0 win and a seventh-straight victory.

But Poland's Krzysztof Piatek won a penalty after a challenge from Scotland goalkeeper Craig Gordon in stoppage time.

Contact appeared minimal at best but the spot-kick was given and dispatched by the Polish striker, leaving a bitter taste on an otherwise positive night for Scotland ahead of another friendly on Tuesday, against Austria.

For Rangers legend McCoist - who hails from East Kilbride - it's not the correct call: "Scotland are very unlucky in the end, it's never a penalty.

"I don't care what anybody says. But there's a lot of positives to take from tonight. It's been a good evening for Scotland."

Fellow Rangers hero Kris Boyd, speaking on Sky Sports, was more scathing in his assessment: "We've been cheated right at the death.

"There's not enough contact for him to go rolling about the way he does, there's actually no contact there at all. It's so easy, that is absolutely pathetic."

Scotland legend and former Motherwell star McFadden shared similar sentiments, adding: "That's a dive. He lands on both feet and then goes down.

"The referee can see it and he's assumed Craig Gordon has caught him."
