Rangers icon Andy Goram cancer fundraiser raises over £30k for stricken goalie

Tam Cowan has revealed that a cancer fundraiser for Rangers hero Andy Goram in Airdrie earlier this week has raised £30,000.

The sold-out event at Airdrie Working Men's Club on Wednesday was attended by 250 people, who all dug deep in honour of Goram, who himself made a cameo appearance.

Bobby Clark, who runs the club, organised the evening with help from Cowan, who comepred. Appearances were made by Old Firm stars such as Frank McAvennie, Peter Grant and Marvin Andrews taking part.

A major boost to the coffers was an incredible auction prize donated by Sir Rod Stewart for a meet and greet with the superstar for two people at one of his shows at the Hydro in Glasgow in November or December.

The money will be split between cancer charities, St Andrew's Hospice and Goram's family.

In an Instagram post, comedian and broadcaster Cowan said: "It was an incredible night, 250 sold-out crowd in the Airdrie Working Men's Club.

"We basically raised £30,000, which is brilliant, split between cancer charities, St Andrew's Hospice, and of course Andy Goram's family.

"A cast of thousands there, Frank McAvennie, Peter Grant, Gordon Smith, big Marvin Andrews, Simon Donnelly, they all took part in a Q and A, it was fabulous.

"Andy himself made a wee cameo appearance, which absolutely brought the house down, everybody in floods of tears.

"And the great thing was, thanks to Rod Stewart and that amazing prize, I know my Instagram followers were great and got it up to £3000, but £10,000 it went for - ten grand, amazing."

Goram, from Coatbridge, has been given the horrible news that he has just weeks to live.
