Rangers Hotline tormentor told Celtic Christmas title prediction is way off as Ibrox legions warn derby swing is coming

Scottish football fans were clearly missing their fix over the weekend as the national game paused in respect to the late Queen. But not everyone agreed with the move and they are hoping to get back to business this weekend.

Not long after the calls, their wish was granted by Scottish football bosses. William Hutchison, Aberdeen, said: “I'm glad there's a full football card this week and weekend. We all need a break from what's been happening and to postpone the football again would have been ludicrous. I am sure every club will have a minute's silence."

Alan McPherson, Cullen Moray, said: “It was a terrible decision to postpone football because of the death of the Queen. I could go to the cinema, theatre or a restaurant so why not football? A minute’s silence would have been quite sufficient and give fans a chance to express their condolences. Many fans have spent money planning attending games at a time when money is tight and they will have to do it again when the games are played on a cold night in November."

Kenny Goff , via email, said: “Why did all football need to be cancelled? Why not play the games and have all teams wear black armbands and to have a two-minute silence as they did elsewhere. Golf, rugby and horse racing all went ahead.”

Meanwhile, Paul McArdle, Gourock, said: “There have been two Coronation Cups in history. 1902 and 1953. The club that won it both times is the famous Glasgow Celtic. Will there be a third?”

There’s enough trophies up for grabs right now and caller Bud Hay’s title boast got Rangers fans riled up. Scott Gowers, Edinburgh, said: "Bud Hay thinks the league will be won by Christmas. Bud should at least give his club until March before Rangers seal the league. Celtic are not in a familiar position of playing European football week in week out until the end of the season which definitely has an impact on the weekend's games after, and Celtic already seem to tire after 35 to 40 mins.”

Alfie Mullin, London, said: “Bud Hay is delusional if he thinks the league will be over by Christmas. Rangers have now had this season's blip and we will be back firing on all cylinders. We'll beat Celtic in the next three meetings.”

Gary Stevenson, Newtonhill, said: “You have to laugh at the Celtic supporters claiming a superb performance during their 3-0 home defeat in Europe. Just imagine if they actually get a point in their up and coming fixtures. No doubt they will be claiming it as the best results in Scottish football history.”

Gers fan Robert McNab emailed: “Rangers have spent more than £10million on four players in the transfer window but only one is a regular starter. Ben Davies, Rabbi Matondo and Ridvan Yilmaz represent terrible transfer business up to this point. If we aren’t careful Rangers will be struggling to compete at SPFL level.”

Sir Rod Stewart called the Hotline yesterday to defend our teams’ Euro woes. But Wullie Graham, Bristol, said: “I understand Rod's point about the difference in finance between Scottish and European teams. The same applies to the Old Firm and the rest of Scottish football. It’s glory hunters like Rod flocking in their thousands to watch them rather than support their local team. Rod should be a Hibs fan as his father was from Leith.”

While Dr Robert S Pender emailed: “We must stop kidding ourselves as to the standard of our teams. They are at best middle English Championship level. You get what you pay for when you are spending £2m to £7m. Big investment from multi billionaires is required urgently.” That might even be beyond Sir Rod.
