Rangers hero Kris Boyd issues cheeky dig as he salutes record-breaking Scots striker

Rangers hero Kris Boyd couldn't resist a cheeky dig as he surprised a record-breaking Ayrshire footballer with a hilarious video message.

Former Ibrox star Boyd was quick to pass on his congratulations after Irvine Victoria striker Kevin Adam broke his club's all-time goalscoring record on Saturday.

Adam, 33, took his tally for the Ayrshire West of Scotland League side to 147 with a goal against Carluke Rovers to pass Andy Clarkson's 40-year-long record.

Ex-Scotland international Boyd was impressed enough to record a message for a special video package put together by the club.

But the footballer-turned TV pundit playfully put Adam's exploits in to context as he bigged-up his own goalscoring feats.

Flashing his trademark toothy grin, Boyd, who also played with Kilmarnock, said: "Alright Kev big man, congratulations on breaking Irvine Victoria's all-time goalscoring record.

"147 goals - a fantastic achievement. God sake, it only took me about three year to do that! How long you been playing for?

"But listen, well done. All the best to you and the boys for the rest of the season. I hope you go and win that league.

"Good luck, cheers and well done 'cause it's not easy scoring goals - some just make it look easy."

Adam told Ayrshire Football News he was proud to make history - but immediately set his sights on a new goals target.

He said: “I’m absolutely delighted to get the record – it’s been a long time coming.

“When I came back to the club I was confident I could get it so I’m really proud. Someone mentioned that my next target should be 200 goals but I’m 33 now and I’m not sure If I’ve got that in my legs!

“I’m just concentrating on finishing top goalscorer this year. Strikers are judged by their goals and I’ve got good competition here.”
