Rangers hero Barry Ferguson lists FOUR Player of the Year contenders including Celtic star duo

Barry Ferguson has listed his FOUR Player of the Year contenders for this season but he can't see past Celtic star Kyogo Furuhashi.

Ange Postecoglou's main man is on the verge of breaking through the 30-goal barrier for the season with his total sitting at 29 so far. He had the chance to reach that milestone last time out but failed to add to his opener from the penalty spot against Kilmarnock after watching his effort strike the post and bounce away to safety.

Celtic skipper Callum McGregor is another who makes his list with the Hoops' 'Mr Consistent' leading his side to the League Cup, on the verge of back to back Premiership titles and could yet land the Scottish Cup in a domestic clean sweep with Rangers to come at Hampden in the semi-final in a couple of weeks time.

The Rangers legend also named outside shouts in the shape of Aberdeen's Duk, Motherwell striker Kevin van Veen and St Mirren ace Mark O'Hara. No one from his former club made his top list of candidates.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show he said: "My four, I'm going Kyogo and McGregor and I think there could be a couple of surprises from other teams.

"You've got to look at Duk, Kevin van Veen and even the boy [Mark] O'Hara at St Mirren.

"I've seen O'Hara a number of times and he's gone up a level or two recently - he might be one St Mirren struggle to hold onto. But it's going to come down to Kyogo or Callum McGregor.

"I think Kyogo will get over 30 goals this season and he's been so consistent - he'll pip Callum McGregor for Player of the Year."

Fellow pundit Peter Grant also namechecked O'Hara and Duk as potentials while he named Celtic's Reo Hatate and Hibs star man Kevin Nisbet in his pool.

He said: "Kyogo, Hatate, McGregor - I'd also look at Duk, Nisbet or O'Hara.

"I'm surprised Duk hasn't played through the middle more often because of that power and pace he has got and I think Kevin Nisbet has come back strong from his injury.

"O'Hara is scoring goals from the middle of the pitch and great credit to him - his goal at Ibrox was fantastic."

Grant then delivered his case for Hatate while echoing Ferguson's shout for Kyogo, he continued: "He just sees things other people don't see. He sees passes before the ball comes to him and he always seems to have time on the ball - even in tight areas.

"He does it fantastically well and his first thought is always forward. I love that in a midfield player. But the hardest thing in football is scoring goals. That is why I would go for Kyogo."
