Rangers goalkeeper McCrorie set for transfer exit despite contract offer

Rangers goalkeeper Robby McCrorie is set for a transfer exit this summer.

The shot-stopper had submitted a transfer request to Ibrox chiefs in January and will continue to push for a move this summer.

McCrorie, 26, had been keen on a move out on loan for game time earlier in the season in the hope he could sneak into Steve Clarke's Scotland squad for Euro 2024.

A departure - temporary or permanent - was not considered then with Clement relying on McCrorie as his back-up to No1 Jack Butland.

However, it's thought McCrorie is now at the point where he needs game time and will look elsewhere as he enters the final season of his contract in Glasgow.

McCrorie has been offered new terms by Ibrox chiefs who are keen for him to commit his future to the club again on an improved deal.

But McCrorie could choose to move on permanently instead of signing a new contract with the possibility of a loan move for minutes while providing cover between the sticks.

A source close to the player told the Rangers Review: “Robby believes he has waited long enough and listened to so many promises from previous managers and coaches and it could be his loyalty to the club has not helped him.

“Although Rangers are desperate to hold on to him, he says he has to move on now.”

Philippe Clement has already allowed Jon McLaughlin to leave the club at the end of his contract as he was among a five-man list of free transfer exits.

John Lundstram, Borna Barisic, Ryan Jack and Kemar Roofe also bid farewell to the Ibrox club upon the expiry of their contract.

With McLaughlin gone and the possibility of McCrorie leaving too, Clement could be forced to make two signings in the goalkeeping department to support Butland for the upcoming campaign.
