Rangers fringe player's long-term future called into question

Ianis Hagi's long-term Rangers future has been called into question by Derek Ferguson.

The lifelong Gers fan admits he can't see the Romanian becoming a mainstay player under Michael Beale.

The former Light Blues player insists a few minutes at the end of a game, such as last night's win over Servette, is not enough time for the 24-year-old to show what he can do.

The playmaker spent the best part of a year out after sustaining a serious knee injury in January 2022.

And since then, he's failed to make an impact at Ibrox. He's made just 11 appearances since his injury comeback.

He was an unused substitute at Kilmarnock on Saturday and was only afforded the final moments of the 2-1 win over Servette.

Ferguson remains unconvinced over the fringe player's future at Ibrox.

Asked if Hagi has a long-term future at the club, he told BBC Scotland: "I'm not so sure. I don't think he'll be a starting player under Michael Beale.

"He obviously missed a lot of football with the cruciate injury, so he'll be wanting to play first-team football.

"I don't see it, to be honest with you. Does he want to be here at Ibrox as an impact player? I'm not so sure. But that game at times was crying out, certainly in that second half for that little bit of creativity.

"He came on with what, two or three minutes to go? It doesn't give you a lot of time to show what you are all about."
