Rangers flop Bongani Zungu slammed after horror challenge outrages South Africa

South Africa's refereeing chief has slammed former Rangers flop Bongani Zungu as 'brutal' after his challenge which has outraged the country.

And neither Zungu nor his club, Mamelodi Sundowns, have apologised to TS Galaxy's Bernard Parker, whose career is now in the balance after suffering a broken leg following an 'inhumane' tackle.

Zungu, who made 14 league appearances for Rangers with just one start, was heavily criticised following his horror challenge in a cup game this week.

And South Africa's head of refereeing Abdul Ebrahim was outraged at the incident.

He said: "Everyone saw how badly Zungu challenged Bernard Parker, but he still protested his innocence.

"For me, that was pure brutality. We cannot have that in football, those are the kinds of things we need to condemn.

"A player's football career may now be ended, because of a challenge like that.

"I want to applaud the quick reaction of the referee in getting the medics onto the pitch and the quick reactions in dealing with the player."

And neither 31-year-old Zungu nor his club have contacted the player yet, according to TS Galaxy chairman Tim Sukazi.

He said: "Bongani Zungu hasn't apologised to Bernard Parker. Also his club hasn't reached out to our club.

"Whatever happens, whether he decides to play again or not, he will have a home at Galaxy and is here to stay

"I saw everything, to be honest. The tackle was inhumane to say the least and it's got no place in football, none whatsoever. It has to be condemned at all levels."
