Rangers FC news round-up: Derby stalemate, club in strong statement about Celtic Park incidents & Boyd on Leipzig

Rangers FC news round-up: Derby stalemate, club in strong statement about Celtic Park incidents & Boyd on Leipzig

RANGERS have another massive week to look forward to.

Today's match against Celtic will soon be forgotten about, with the focus already on Thursday's clash against RB Leipzig.

Here are the top stories from Sunday, May 1...

Derby ends in stalemate

CELTIC will have to wait a little longer to be crowned Scottish champions this season after being held to a 1-1 draw by Rangers at Parkhead today in the final Old Firm derby of the season.

Jota put Ange Postecoglou’s side in front in the first-half and it looked as if they were heading for a triumph that would send them nine points clear at the top of the cinch Premiership table with three games remaining.

However, Fashion Sakala scored an equaliser for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side and the Ibrox club were unfortunate they didn’t take the lead and win thereafter as they pushed hard for another in the closing stages.

Club takes aim at policing after supporters were 'attacked' at Celtic Park

RANGERS have slammed 'attacks' on supporters, including elderly and disabled fans, following this afternoon's derby game with Celtic.

After full-time, reports emerged of bottle and missile throwing inside the stadium.

Celtic fans exited the stadium first, with around 800-away fans kept behind by police, as is standard practice in these fixtures.

Boyd glad Rangers were unscathed by injury ahead of Leipzig tie

KRIS BOYD insists that Rangers lost their league title after Christmas and the most important aspect of today's 1-1 draw was leaving the East End of Glasgow unscathed by injury.

Even if Rangers had won today's game they would have needed their bitter rivals to lose and draw in their final three league games - and with two of them at home, such a likelihood was always remote.

And Boyd insists that it's Thursday's game against Leipzig in the semi-final of the Europa League that's more important and avoiding any further absences was the key outcome of the match at Parkhead.
