Brendan Rodgers is back in favour with most Celtic fans following his impressive address at the end of last week.
But Rangers fans reckon the returning gaffer’s vow to punters to see them back on the steps of Parkhead in May is doomed to failure. John Robertson, South Queensferry, said: “Rodgers came to Celtic at first when Rangers were a mess, making it barely a two horse race with one horse very lame. Sacked by Liverpool and Leicester and called an elite manager, do not make me laugh. Rangers fans do not fret, Mr Failure will achieve nothing second time around.”
John Bruce, Glasgow, said: “Rodgers told the few hundred now adoring fans – who once accused him of treachery – who turned up outside Parkhead, 'see you next May'. His arrogance has obviously blinded him to the fact that the current Rangers team is no longer managed by a former youth team coach or filled with jobbing players. The same fickle fans also think they heard him say, 'I'll be here for three years, unless I'm emptied first'. When what he really said was, 'unless I'm tempted first’.
Andrew Lamb, Fraserburgh, said: “Much noise emanating from Parkhead these days regarding what they're going to be doing. To quote Rodgers, we'll see you next May Brendan.” Joe Graham, Garrowhill, said: “I had a real good laugh at the comments made from Rodgers. He is going to turn Kyogo Furuhashi into Luis Suarez and bring his new club Champions League success on his return. Have Celtic signed a magician?”
George Wilson, West Sussex, said: “More comedy from the Celtic camp. On top of Callum McGregor we now have Brendan Rogers saying Celtic can reach a European final. They have been a joke and been humiliated in Europe for 20 years now and there is no guarantee they will win a game in Europe never mind a trophy.
Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, said: “The Scottish government scrap their bottle return scheme, and Parkhead chiefs should have followed suit by not returning Brendan Rodgers. He was once was invincible at Celtic but now he will need to be convincible.”
Neil Renton, Edinburgh, said: “I read with interest Neil Lennon talking up Rodgers chances of being a success on returning to Celtic. Lennon is clearly trying to keep in the clubs good books so he’ll get a another six month stint in charge when Rodgers inadvertently leaves for a bigger club in the English Championship.”
But Kenny Wilson, Moffat, backed the boss and said: “Celtic fans need to move on and get behind our manager. Players and managers move on, they can’t pick and choose who should be vilified for doing so. He won seven out of seven trophies and in the league we were in an almost unassailable position. He is the best man Celtic can get and if they can’t see that and move forward like so many have said no one is forcing them to buy a season ticket so support them or stay away.”
Meanwhile, tin hats on at Record Towers as Henry Moffat, Stirling, said: “I think some of the Record Sport’s Monday jury must have had a big weekend at Glastonbury if they think Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers are valued at £8m and £10m apiece. Try trebling that. And what is this Rangers revival people are talking of? Winning zero trophies and losing two players they valued at £50m for nothing is now a revival? Or maybe it’s beating a Celtic team playing with buckets and spades under their arms.”
