Rangers fans pay tribute to Queen with Ibrox tifo display ahead of Napoli Champions League clash

Rangers fans have paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II with a stunning Union Jack Ibrox tifo display.

Light Blues fans' group the Union Bears announced online ahead of the Champions League clash with Napoli that they had prepared a display in the Broomloan Stand and asked all fans in the area to hold up material left at their seats as both sets of players enter the pitch and during the national anthem.

Her Majesty The Queen passed away last week at Balmoral, aged 96, after reigning for 70 years. The Ibrox side sent their thoughts to the Royal Family and everyone else mourning as the news broke with clubs up and down the country also sending condolences. As a mark of respect last weekend's SPFL card across all the professional divisions was postponed.

The matchday two clash between Rangers and Napoli was pushed back 24 hours from Tuesday's originally scheduled fixture with no away fans from the Serie A high-flyers allowed in Ibrox. It will be a special atmosphere inside Ibrox and the surrounding areas as Giovanni van Bronckhorst's men bid to put big losses to Celtic and Ajax behind them with a massive performance in front of a sell-out crowd.

A Union Bears statement pre-match read: "Union Bears have prepared a tifo in the Broomloan Stand ahead of tonight's match with Napoli.

"We ask that everyone holds up the material on their seat as the players enter the pitch and during the national anthem."

A UEFA statement on plans for UK based teams reads: "In commemoration of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the following will take place for matches involving UK teams as the home team during the pre-match ceremony: No centre-circle/pitch banners/arch, No UEFA Champions League anthem, Moment of silence/black armbands, No pre-match sponsor activations/player mascots.

"Additionally, the following will take place for matches involving UK teams as the away team during the pre-match ceremony: Moment of silence/black armbands."

After the original statement it was decided a silence would not take place at the game between Shakhtar Donetsk and Celtic following pre-match briefing discussions.
